Press Releases

Klein+ Hummel, a 100% Sennheiser subsidiary, introduces two new subwoofers: O 810 and O 870

Since 1967, Klein + Hummel’s active studio monitors have developed a reputation for their pioneering engineering techniques and low distortion reproduction. More recently, a
profusion of developments in transmission technologies has increased the demands placed on professional monitoring systems. As a result, modern production facilities now require highquality monitoring systems that can accurately reproduce anything up to the latest 7.1 discrete high definition formats.

The O 810 and O 870 meet these new demands. It is the perfect compliment to Klein + Hummel’s increasingly extensive range of monitors and can be used either as unit dedicated to reproducing the LFE channel, or as a way to provide low-frequency extension and increased maximum SPL for the main loudspeakers.

“The O 810 and O 870 now make it possible to assemble flexible monitoring systems for different sized of studio, with a smooth and uniform response that ranges from less than 20 Hz to greater than 20 kHz” says Andrew Goldberg, Product manager Studio Systems.

The built-in 7.1 Channel High Definition Bass Manager™ is compatible with all formats from mono through to the latest 7.1 high definition systems, such as Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Eight channels of analog, or an optional 8-channel 24-bit 192 kHz digital input card, ensure flexible interconnectivity for modern studios. Four-mode LFE channel processing ensures maximum compatibility across all formats. 4th order crossovers and flexible acoustical controls allow for seamless system integration. Built-in volume control allows for centralized system replay level adjustment independent of the source, and the
electronics can be remote located to reduce cabling.

The latest amplifier technologies and acoustical components have been used to ensure the most accurate sound reproduction possible. Robust drivers, a rock-solid cabinet, and carefully designed ports guarantee a tight, articulate, and distortion-free low frequency reproduction down to 18 Hz, even at high replay levels. Using the sum output, Plane Wave Bass Array™ (PWBA™) techniques can acoustically improve lateral consistency in the listening area. The O 810 and O 870 can be used in music, broadcast, and post production studios for tracking, mixing, and mastering. They may be positioned next to a
wall or flush mounted into a wall, and can be mixed freely in multichannel systems with other loudspeakers from the Klein + Hummel range. An extensive range of accessories further enhance the flexibility of the system.

K+H offers clean and strong power amplification with the K8 system
advantage

Klein+Hummel introduces the KPA series of audio power amplifiers ideally suited to drive the largest and most demanding reinforcement applications. Power factor corrected and operating at levels as high as 6000 Watts into 2 Ohms down to models providing 1100 Watts into 8 Ohms, this series covers the full range of reinforcement needs. Unique to K+H is the ability to daisy chain amplifiers together using a single category 5 cable for both digital audio distribution and remote control and monitoring of all amplifier functions including load monitoring. The head end of the K8 digital audio distribution system may be fed with an expanding selection of inputs including the choice of Ether Sound, AES3 digital or analog. Installed sound product manager Dave Theis points out the advantage, “K8 only requires a single control connection to Ethernet or USB to monitor and control all the amplifiers in multiple equipment locations.” Any of 16 audio channels may be selected at the amplifier or switched via remote control through the K8 system from K+H. The KPA series is highly efficient and offers a powersaving standby mode putting long term ownership costs at a minimum. Klein+Hummel is a manufacturer of professional loudspeakers, amplifiers and signal processors in Germany established in 1945 and is owned and distributed by the worldwide network of Sennheiser sales and service organizations.

K+H introduces K8-AESI16 digital audio input device

Klein+Hummel expands the innovative K8 digital audio distribution system with AES3 digital audio inputs. The K8-AESI16 puts 16 audio channels from AES3 onto the K8 bus with a single rack unit box accepting any sample rate from 32 kHz up to 192 kHz. The K8 bus may then be run up to 200 meters over Category 5 cable for distribution directly to K8 enabled power amplifiers, K8 self powered speakers or to K8 analog output devices feeding other system components. According to Dave Theis, product manager for installed sound, “K8 makes Cat5 distribution of digital audio available to a wide range of system sizes in a way that does not require extensive training to implement.” K+H successfully launched the K8 system concept in Frankfurt last year as a cost effective method to distribute 16 channels of digital audio out to multiple locations with a total system latency of 0.5 milliseconds. The flexibility and compatibility of the system is now further increased with the addition of the K8-AESI16 and allows the system to be fed from any device with AES3 standard outputs. Klein+Hummel is a manufacturer of professional loudspeakers, amplifiers and singal processors in Germany established in 1945 and is owned and distributed by the worldwide network of Sennheiser sales and service organizations.

K8 Digital Audio Transport

Move audio, see where it goes . . .
The K8 digital audio distribution system is ideal for moving professional quality audio across a facility. It can be used for simple point-to-point connections or can form a distribution backbone for sending up to 16 audio channels to multiple remote locations. The system is fast to implement as it requires no configuration and is easily connected together with up to 200 meter lengths of category 5 cable. For advanced applications the entire system may be monitored from a single Ethernet port with no additional cabling.

K8 Advantages
  16 Channels Digital Audio
  Very low Latency
  Category 5 Cable
  200 Meter Length
  No Configuration Required
  Star and Daisy Chain Architecture
  Expandable Topology
  Single Cable Solution
  Ethernet Control and Monitoring
  Resistant to Failures
  Resistant to Noise

Application Ideas
For large paging and background music applications pull a single category 5 cable out to each remote amplifier location or daisy chain from one amplifier room to the next. All locations have access to 16 channels of digital audio without concern over ground loops or induced noise. Use K8 as a mini snake for sending audio feeds from an auditorium out a remote broadcast truck. Mount a K8 device in a cluster of powered speakers and drive the entire cluster with a single category 5 cable. Use K8 as a digital snake between the mixing console and the amplifier racks. Put another K8 branch and output device on stage to drive the stage monitors. Distribute central background music and paging out to individual venue systems in cruise ships, entertainment facilities, convention centers, schools and conference facilities. Add a new zone to an existing K8 system by extending the existing cable infrastructure. Replace audio routers with remote control over output channel selection across the K8 system.

Technology Description
The K8 digital audio distribution system carries 16 channels of uncompressed digital audio over a standard category 5 cable at a rate of 48kHz with a depth of 24 bits and a very low latency. The same cable also carries bi-directional data for remote monitoring and control of all devices connected within the K8 system over a single Ethernet port. Cable lengths may be run up to a total of 200 meters through passively daisy chained devices. Actively refreshing the line with a K8 distribution amplifier allows endless additions of 200 meter cable lengths. Multi-output K8 distribution amplifiers may be used to implement a star distribution configuration. Failure of a single K8 audio output device allows other devices on the system to continue to function. Audio is placed onto the distribution network at up to 2 locations with 8 channels of input at each location.

K+H System Philosophy
K+H professional audio system products are designed to provide advantages to the system designer by offering a balance between open architecture and proprietary technologies. The industry standard Ethersound audio networking technology is utilized as the core system backbone for transporting 128 low latency audio channels and for interconnection to third party products. The K8 distribution system is used as a branching distribution architecture from the core Ethersound backbone. With K8 technology a high quality digital audio path can be maintained up to the final destination.

Klein+Hummel to launch new monitor speakers

At 121st AES Convention, San Francisco, Klein+Hummel introduces two new monitor speakers, the O 300 nearfield monitor and the M52 control monitor which is designed for mobile studios and all applications where space is an issue but quality monitoring still indispensable.

Following the O 300 D with both, analogue and digital inputs, the O 300's model number already implies that the new speaker builds on the features of the O 300 D - actually, it provides the same acoustic and electronic qualities without the digital inputs of its sister product at a different price level. O 300 stands for a compact active reference monitor with accurate, uncolored sound, superb transient response, and ideally shaped waveguides.

The speaker has been fine-tuned through extensive computer simulations and countless listening tests resulting in precise room-matching capabilities reproducing sound absent of colorations, precise bass response, picture-perfect dispersion patterns, and a stunningly real soundstage.

The M 52 is the powered control monitor of choice for small studios and sound trucks. Featuring a linear frequency response, the M 52 also convinces by its size of 120 x 173 x 116 mm. The M 52 fits many applications in recording and broadcasting applications, it also works on 12V DC power supply. Optionally, the M 52 is available with digital inputs (AES/EBU and S/P-dif).
