General Description

AudioBeam – Hearing in focus

Introduction

The transmission of audio, remarkably bundled like a lightbeam, is made possible by Sennheiser’s AudioBeam technology. The innovative AudioBeam system is based on ultrasonic technology. It concentrates the radiation of sound into a small range, so that the transmitted audio signal is only audible at certain locations.
Therefore, the AudioBeam is an ideal “loudspeaker” solution for museum and theatre installations, as well as for security and digital signage applications.

Technology

The audio to be transmitted – whether speech, music or other sounds – are mixed into an ultrasonic signal which is radiated in a precise and known direction. At the designated location, and only there, calculated intermodulation effects take place, and the original audio becomes audible.
If you stand next to or behind the AudioBeam, you will hear nothing. You will only hear the sound if you are directly within the sound beam, or if the sound is reflected back to you by a smooth surface like a glass panel or a wall.

Applications

There are myriad possible fields of application for the AudioBeam. Exhibitions can be enriched by acoustic effects, such as wandering sounds, exhibits can offer information, which can only be heard by nearby viewers, paintings seem to explain their history themselves. In addition, users of terminals can be supplied with individualized information, and conference delegates can listen to different languages – without various audio feeds interfering with each other. With Sennheiser’s AudioBeam, the possibilities are unlimited!
