Sennheiser conducts professional Live Mixing Workshop at AES Convention
05.05.2007 Vienna/Wedemark

Audio specialist Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG will offer a special highlight at the 2007 AES Convention: a Live Mixing Workshop will welcome audio enthusiasts and sound professionals to an afternoon of hands-on experience with Sennheiser and Neumann microphones.

Sound engineers, dealers, musicians and sound engineering students should note down May 5: Sennheiser’s Live Mixing Workshop will be held in Rooms E 1+2 from 2 p.m. until approx. 6.30 p.m. This workshop has successfully been run in Spain, Germany, Russia, China, Turkey and India, and comprises a theoretical part and a practical part involving the mixing of a live band.

The first part of the workshop includes lectures on Live Sound and Monitor Sound by highly acclaimed sound engineers Oliver Voges (Echo Awards, The Dome, Naturally 7, Scooter, Mousse T.) and Wayne “Heights” Gittens (Herbert Grönemeyer, Xavier Naidoo, Echo Awards, Comet). They are very much looking forward to the AES: “This is a really unique event: it makes the soundcheck the show! We are very pleased to be able to run this workshop at the prestigious AES Convention and share our engineering experience with the participants.”

The second part of the workshop will witness the live mixing of the singer and rhythm section of The Hot Pants Road Club, Austria’s famous funk and soul band. The workshop participants will be given tips and tricks on miking, while experimenting with different microphone choices and positions. A fully-fledged soundcheck both for the front-of-house PA and the monitor mix for the artists will provide ample practical experience for the participants. Wireless monitoring receivers will be available for listening to the monitor mixes, and Oliver Voges and Heights Gittens will be happy to answer all questions that arise during the mixing session.

Gregor Zielinsky, Grammy-winning sound engineer from Sennheiser electronic and inventor of the Live Mixing Event, said, “This is Sennheiser’s eighth Live Mixing Event, a workshop that has proved extremely successful all over the globe. For sound engineering students, it is a welcome opportunity to gain more experience in the live sector, while professional engineers can finally take the time to test several Sennheiser and Neumann models on the various instruments and voices. For dealers, it is an ideal tool to get to know what their customers need and make contacts in the industry.”
