| Sennheiser electronic to sponsor the EMERGENZA Rock Festival throughout Europe in 2001 |
When the EMERGENZA Rock Festival was founded by a band from Rome on 3 February 1990, no-one could suspect that, in 2001, it would provide the largest showcase for newcomer bands throughout Europe to present themselves and their music to a wider audience. So far, more than seven thousand bands have taken part in the EMERGENZA Rock Festival. More than four million people were in the audience. This year, more than one thousand bands will appear in the preliminary rounds. And Sennheiser electronic will be supporting EMERGENZA throughout Europe as the main sponsor.
“Sennheiser is sponsoring the international festival in order give the young musicians the opportunity to work with high quality professional stage sets,” explains Rolf Meyer, President of Marketing and Sales at Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG.
Sennheiser is providing manpower, equipment, expertise, funding and valuable prizes for the European national finals in Rome, Paris, Brussels and Berlin. The Grand European Final will take place from 10 to 12 August 2001 at the Taubertal Festival in Rothenburg. This year’s winner will receive a complete wireless stage microphone set-up from Sennheiser’s “evolution wireless Series”, comprising an ew 565 RF wireless system with hand-held transmitter, three ew 552 systems with headset microphones and three ew 572 systems with instrument transmitters. The winners will also be given a two-week tour of the USA, organised by EMERGENZA.
The success of some of the bands is proof that taking part in the EMERGENZA Festival means more than winning prizes. The 1999 European winners MYBALLOON from Berlin were signed up by Turbobeat/BMG, while GLOW went straight into the charts with their debut CD “Superclass” (Supersonic/BMG) and BEACH, 1998’s European winners from Ireland, stormed into the Top Twenty in their own country. Four EMERGENZA winners have already been included in the compilation CD issued by VISIONS magazine. Following this, the bands performed at the BIZARRE Festival.
The EMERGENZA Rock Festival is open to all bands who are able to give a live performance of their own repertoire or – with some restrictions – cover versions of songs. The bands compete in preliminary rounds between January and July. After several heats, it is up to the audience to decide at the end of each final evening which of the bands is to proceed to the Grand Final. The closing date for registration for the 2002 festival is 31 December 2001.
