Sennheiser/Neumann Wireless Mic Combo Wins 2003 TEC Award
16.10.2003 Wedemark/Berlin/New York

The 19th Annual TEC (Technical Excellence and Creativity) Awards were presented on October 11, 2003 at a ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City with Sennheiser and Neumann receiving the prestigious TEC Award in the category of “Wireless Microphone Technology” for the Sennheiser SKM 5000-N/Neumann KK-105-S. The TEC Awards are presented by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio and sponsored by Mix magazine with the proceeds of the event earmarked for hearing conservation programs and scholarships for students of the audio arts and sciences. Last year, Sennheiser also won this award for the HD 280 Pro headphones, in the category of “Ancillary Products”.

Combining an updated version of Sennheiser’s celebrated top-of-the-line 5000 Series wireless handheld transmitter and Neumann’s celebrated KMS 105 live performance condenser capsule, this new wireless combo mic embodies the best of both worlds: world-class Sennheiser RF performance teamed with Neumann’s famed studio sound for vocal reproduction. Based on its pedigree and flawless integration, the Sennheiser 5000-N/KK 105-S found its way into the Grammys, Emmys, Olympics, and Academy Awards shortly after its introduction. Within the past year, it was seen on high-profile broadcasts for the Superbowl, Divas, the MTV VMA awards, American Idol, the Latin Grammys, the Country Music Awards and host of other worldwide events. Users such as Cher, Ashanti, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, The Isley Brothers, Chris Rock, and Tony Bennett quickly took to the unit’s flawless performance and peerless sound reproduction. Top sound companies felt confident bringing the 5000-N/105-S to sporting events and live performance venues. From Wireless First in New York to Professional Sound in Florida and Soundtronics in LA, the buzz was out that Sennheiser had done it again — taking RF performance to another level. But based on Sennheiser’s famous history, such a success is hardly a surprise. After all, in 1958, Sennheiser engineered the groundbreaking “Mikroport” wireless system for TV broadcasting and live sound. Leading the industry in wireless performance landed Sennheiser an Emmy in 1996.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, the Sennheiser Group with its headquarters in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, had total sales of over €229 million in 2002. The export share is about 80%. Sennheiser has a total workforce of approx. 1,500 employees, of whom 800 are employed in Germany. Sennheiser is active worldwide and, in addition to other partnerships, has its own sales subsidiaries in France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, China, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and the USA.
