| Sennheiser and Neumann Technology for Dresden´s Frauenkirche |
| 30.10.2005 Wedemark / Dresden |
After twelve years of painstaking reconstruction, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in the German city of Dresden is now being officially reopened. The ruins that were all that remained of the building until 1993 have now been transformed back into the magnificent 18th century baroque church. What is more, the building now has all the modern technical facilities of the 21st century, including electricity, air conditioning and state-of-the-art audio technology. Sennheiser electronic has donated the entire microphone system. The Frauenkirche is also equipped with the GuidePort visitor guidance system from Sennheiser, which, from November onwards, will tell visitors all they need to know about the church and its moving history.
"The reconstruction of the Frauenkirche was financed by an unprecedented campaign of national and international donations. We are very pleased to have been able to make our contribution by providing our microphone technology," said Rolf Meyer, speaker of the Sennheiser Executive Committee, on the occasion of the opening ceremony. "In particular, the new equipment will be ideally suited for broadcasting services and events from the Frauenkirche."
In the church itself, the pulpit is equipped with an AK 40/KM 100 microphone from Neumann, while sound at the altar is picked up by a Sennheiser MKH 60 shotgun microphone, thus ensuring maximum directivity and resistance to feedback. For concerts and other events, microphones of the type MD 421 SE (Sennheiser), AK 30/KM 100 (Neumann), GFM 132 (Neumann) and KM 184 (Neumann) are available. Wireless audio transmission is provided by Sennheiser SKM 5000 hand-held transmitters, SK 50 pocket transmitters with MKE 2-4 Gold clip-on microphones and the EM 3032 True Diversity double receiver.
From November onwards, those who want to find out more about the history and architecture of the Frauenkirche will have a very knowledgeable guide at their disposal: for a small fee, the GuidePort Audioguide will tell the fascinating story of the Frauenkirche. At the touch of a button, it will tell all about the construction - and destruction - of the famous church. It describes its reconstruction, the juxtaposition of the historic and new elements and the many works of art that are the pride of the Frauenkirche. One hundred Audioguide units with information in five languages are provided by the GuidePort system partner GPT Audio.
