The solution

At the Wayne County Public Defender’s Office, inside of the historic Wayne County Courthouse in Lyons, New York, a significant challenge was posed: integrate cutting-edge audio technology without compromising the building's 19th-century architectural integrity. Constructed in 1854, the courthouse boasts a crowned dome, stately entrance columns, intricate ceiling designs, and one of New York’s most elegant and well-preserved historic courtrooms. The space serves multiple functions, from county planning and committee meetings to legislative sessions, all requiring reliable, high-quality audio coverage.

Fusion Digital, a full-service provider of information technology and audio-visual solutions, chose Sennheiser over other brands for this project due to its reputation for precision, reliability, and responsiveness. Sennheiser’s superior attention to detail and consistent communication throughout the project, ensured evolving needs were met seamlessly. The project utilized over 20 microphones strategically installed throughout the chamber, including the SL DW Table Stand 133 wireless microphones, E965 wired microphones, and MZH-3062 gooseneck microphones. These solutions provided exceptional audio clarity for all participants, whether seated or standing, without detracting from the room’s historic aesthetic.

“The team took great in care in the planning and engineering of the systems. Upgrading technology in a historic room like ours was a big challenge. Everything was planned out to the finest detail to provide all the functionality we needed with minimal impact to the aesthetics of the room. There was constant communication during the installation.” – Matt Ury, Director of Information Technology, Wayne County on working with Fusion Digital.

Sennheiser’s advanced technology and discreet design allowed the Fusion Digital team to preserve the classic look of the courthouse while delivering state-of-the-art audio performance. The ability to balance heritage preservation with modern functionality was a testament to the collaborative planning between Sennheiser and the integrator.

Today, the upgraded courtroom at Wayne County Public Defender’s Office continues to host important civic meetings with seamless, crystal-clear audio, maintaining the elegance of its historic setting while embracing the future of communication.

"Sennheiser’s high-quality equipment played a crucial role in achieving this balance, allowing us to enhance the room’s functionality while preserving its classic design."

Alyse Ferranti, Co-President, Fusion Digital

"The big issues were the old microphones, and the sound was very poor with a lot of popping and static. The video was provided by a screen on wheels. It was very hard to see. We also did not have ADA compliance for the hearing impaired. Now, with Sennheiser’s solutions, the communication in the room was greatly improved. The ability to record and stream meetings for further review has been great. The ability to provide transparency to the taxpayers has always been a goal of ours."
