The results
T&R Communications, a leading AV integrator based in California and Nevada, recently completed a landmark project at the May Lee State Office Complex, an expansive, newly constructed government facility in Sacramento that now serves over 5,000 state employees. Spanning four mid-rise buildings, the campus includes 322 conferencing spaces, 30 multipurpose rooms, a gym, private dining areas, and an auditorium. The scale and variety of these environments demanded a reliable, flexible audio solution that could support hybrid communication, voice lift, and seamless integration with modern AV control systems.
To meet these needs, T&R Communications selected Sennheiser’s TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphones, initially due to supply availability but ultimately for their superior performance. Each AV space was outfitted with a range of technologies including Atlona’s Velocity control system, Xilica DSPs, and TCC 2 beamforming ceiling microphones. Standard conference rooms featured one or two displays, a ceiling mic, six speakers, a camera, and a room scheduler, all operable via a central touch panel.
The 30 multipurpose rooms presented more complex requirements, often incorporating dual displays, dual microphones, multiple cameras, lighting and shade controls, and more. In the most advanced setup, a divisible space combining two multipurpose rooms, T&R deployed four TCC 2 microphones with four speaker zones to enable Sennheiser’s TruVoicelift functionality.
This configuration provided natural voice reinforcement across the entire space, eliminating the need for podium or handheld microphones. Working closely with Xilica and Sennheiser, T&R fine-tuned mic positioning, lowering them from 15 to 10 feet, and optimized DSP settings to create clean exclusion zones and balanced audio throughout.
The result was a flawless, intelligible in-room and far-end audio experience, even in large, acoustically challenging environments. Over 20 TCC 2 microphones were installed across the campus, and the exceptional results led T&R Communications to begin specifying the TeamConnect Ceiling Medium (TCC M) for future projects. The integrator has also requested a demo unit of the TeamConnect Bar Medium (TC Bar M) to explore expanding their Sennheiser line-up further.
"For the large multipurpose room, I was most impressed with the TruVoicelift capabilities of the TeamConnect Ceiling 2. We didn’t need to deploy a podium or wireless microphones. It simplified everything while maintaining crystal-clear audio."
