Immersive at The Ranch – Powered by AMBEO

Immersive at the Ranch is a powerful example of how AMBEO — Sennheiser Group’s vision for immersive audio — guides innovation across brands like Neumann and Merging Technologies. Together, these technologies form a seamless ecosystem that invites creators to explore the full potential of immersive sound.
Juxtaposing the rural landscape of Southampton with stentorian tracks from the city’s underground rock and metal scene, dual facility recording studio The Ranch recently introduced Immersive at the Ranch - a brand-new Dolby Atmos certified space powered by a high-performance setup from Neumann, and Merging Technologies.
The idea for the immersive facility came from mixing engineers Lewis Chapman and Geoff Swan, whose credits span global artists like Caroline Polachek, Ed Sheeran, and Yungblud. The two reconnected in 2023 to co-create a space offering world-class immersive audio mixing capabilities, seamlessly integrating technologies from across the Sennheiser Group.
The Ranch now features two studios: Studio A, used for live tracking, and Studio B, home to Immersive at the Ranch. This newly outfitted room empowers artists and producers to take their creative vision beyond stereo, allowing them to mix in Dolby Atmos with clarity, depth, and dimensionality.
“The space is super flexible,” says Chapman. “With just a few taps on the Anubis interface, we can go from stereo to Atmos. It’s opened up new conversations about how we record and place elements in the mix.”

At the heart of this setup is the Merging Technologies Anubis interface, known for its precision and intuitive control. The Anubis and the Hapi interface enable seamless multichannel routing and uncompromising audio quality, ideal for remote mixing and file exchange with international collaborators.
“I love that the Anubis remembers all my settings every time I boot up,” Chapman continues. “The preamps are incredible, and the interface is a joy to use. It’s changed how we approach immersive production.”
The monitoring environment is driven by Neumann loudspeakers, including KH310, KH750, KH120, and KH80 models, delivering the accurate imaging, clarity, and depth essential for Dolby Atmos workflows. Chapman, already a longtime user of Neumann monitors, knew from the start that this trusted sound would be key to helping artists understand and explore spatial audio.

“The clarity and translation of the Neumann system are second to none,” Chapman says. “It helps us—and our clients—hear the full potential of their music in immersive formats.”
Immersive at the Ranch reflects the broader mission to make high-end spatial audio production accessible and inspiring. From mixing in Pro Tools and monitoring in Logic to exploring new workflows across stereo and Dolby Atmos, The Ranch is now a hub for innovative audio creation.
“The landscape of immersive audio is constantly evolving,” Chapman concludes. “With more platforms supporting spatial formats, the opportunity for artists to share their work in new ways—through headphones, smart speakers, and beyond—is more exciting than ever.”
